In the third round of the 2026 Wuhan Open women’s singles, Chinese player Guo Hanyu was defeated 1-6, 4-6 by the tournament’s fifth seed Elina Svitolina, missing out on a place in the quarterfinals.

Despite the loss, Guo Hanyu achieved her personal best at the Wuhan Open this year. Granted a wildcard entry, she saved three match points in the first round to upset the 12th seed Sorana Cirstea, recording her first career win over a top-20 player and reaching the round of 16 at a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time.
