At last year's World Championships, the Chinese team held the first, second, seventh, and twelfth seeds in mixed doubles. However, the top-seeded pair Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping was eliminated in the round of 32. The other three pairs all reached the quarterfinals, but Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi missed out on the semifinals. Meanwhile, Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin and Guo Xinwa/Chen Fanghui faced each other in the semifinals, with the former advancing to the final. In the final, they were defeated by the Malaysian pair Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei.

At this year's World Championships, the same four pairs participated together again. After Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi were the first to reach the round of 16, Guo Xinwa/Chen Fanghui also advanced smoothly. Second seeds Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin, last year's runners-up, faced a pair they had never played before and won in straight games, 21-7, 21-11.

The final match saw the top seeds Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping face off against Canada’s Lai Bingcan/Crystal Lai. The “Phoenix” pair completely controlled the match, winning 21-13, 21-8 to advance to the round of 16.
