Wu Dajing named China short track coach

Olympic champion Wu Dajing has been appointed as head coach of China's short track speed skating team, the Winter Sports Administration Center of the General Administration of Sport of China announced on August 12.

The 32-year-old Wu competed in three Winter Olympics. He won the men's 500m gold at PyeongChang 2018, securing China's first and only gold of that Games. At Beijing 2022, he led the Chinese team to victory in the 2,000m mixed relay. Wu announced his retirement this January.

In late July, the Winter Sports Center launched an open selection process for the national team head coach, aiming to bolster preparations for the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps while balancing international competition needs and long-term team development. After applicants submitted their materials, the evaluation committee reviewed qualifications, finalized the shortlist, and held the selection hearing on August 11 at the Winter Sports Center.
