In the opener of the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup, China U23 was defeated by Japan U-23 1:0. Japan U-23 took the lead just 8 mins into the game through Kuryu Matsuki's goal. Japan U-23 was down to 10 men after Ryuya Nishio was sent off in the 18'. Tao Qianglong hit the woodword in the 1st half.
